Xioami has recently launched the 7th generation of their flagship smartphone, its called Mi 8 because it was launched on the 8th anniversary of Xiaomi.
And Xioami not only launched MI 8, it also brought 2 other smartphones with the same name, MI 8 Explorer edition, and MI 8 SE.
In this post, we are going to talk about the differences between these three smartphones, MI 8 vs MI 8 Explorer edition vs MI 8 SE
All these smartphones are currently launched in the home market of Xiaomi, in China. And we can only guess that the MI 8 will be launched in other markets including India soon.
Let’s talk about the design
All the three smartphones have a common design since all are MI 8, there is a slight difference in the design on the back since the front is an all screen bezel-less display with a notch on the top.
While the MI 8 and MI 8 SE features glass back BMI 8 Explorer edition offers a transparent rear glass panel.
Talking about the display, the MI 8 and MI 8 Explorer edition has got a 6.2 inch full HD+ AMOLED with the resolution of 1080 x 2240, and the aspect ratio is 18.7:9.
The MI 8 SE has a 5.88 inch LED panel with the same resolution and aspect ratio. There is a protection of Corning Gorilla Glass on all the three smartphones.
The MI 8 Explorer edition features in-display fingerprint sensor find the other two smartphones have got the fingerprint sensor at the back.
Let’s talk about the specs
The MI 8 Explorer edition and MI 8 smartphone are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset which is the latest high-end chipset. While the Mi 8 SE is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset.
Talking about the RAM the MI it has a 6 GB of RAM, the MI 8 Explorer edition comes with 8 GB of RAM, while Mi 8 SE comes into options of 4 GB RAM and 6 GB RAM.
Talking about storage De MI 8 Explorer edition comes with 128 GB of internal storage, the MI 8 is available in 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB storage. On the other hand, the MI 8 SE comes with 64 GB of storage.
*There is no option for expanding storage on any of the devices.
If you talk about the cameras, MI 8 and MI 8 Explorer edition smartphone feature at 12 MP + 12 MP dual camera setup on the back with a primary sensor of 1.4um pixel size, 4 Axis optical image stabilization, dual pixel AF, and an f / 1.8 aperture.
The secondary 12MP camera comes with an aperture of f/2.4.
The dual camera setup on the back on both the smartphones provides 2X optical zoom as well as portrait mode features.
The AI in has portrait mode offers portrait lighting features as well.
On the other hand, the MI 8 SE has a 12 MP + 5 MP dual camera setup, the primary sensor features EIS (electronic image stabilization), dual-pixel AF and a f/1.9 aperture.
All the three smartphones can record 4K videos at 60 frames per second and have got a 20 Megapixel front camera with AI beautify and AI portrait selfies.
There is an Apple iPhone X like 3D facial recognition Technology in MI 8 and MI 8 SE. Pizza also one of the first smartphones to offer hardware-based facial recognition future on Android.

Talking about the battery life, xiaomi MI 8 has the largest battery of all as it factor 3400mAh capacity battery with Qualcomm quick charge 4+ support for fast charging.
The MI 8 Explorer edition comes with 3000mAh battery capacity with Qualcomm quick charge 4+ support.
The MI 8 SE has got a slightly larger battery then MI 8 Explorer edition, it has a 3120mAh capacity battery with Qualcomm quick charge 3.0 support.
Let’s talk about the price
The Smartphones are currently launched in China so these are the prices from the official website of his journey in China, I could not find the price for the MI 8 Explorer edition.
- Mi 8 is priced at 2699 Yuan (Approx $420)
- Mi 8 SE is priced at 1799 Yuan (Approx $280)
Looking at the history of Xiaomi, the price of their smartphones is roughly similar to the price it is sold at in China.
So we can expect the MI 8 to be released in other markets globally and the price would fall just under $500, which is a Suite pricing for a smartphone with hi and configuration currently the spot has been occupied by OnePlus.
