Here is a simple trick to let you subscribe to YouTube Premium for cheaper than the price that shows inside the YouTube app on your mobile phone, especially on the iPhone.

YouTube has been experimenting with a subscription-based model for its video-sharing site since 2014. It initially introduced music-based service and later renamed it YouTube red in 2015.

Then it announced YouTube premium in 2018 and now offers a subscription that includes ad-free YouTube videos, some Originals (web series and shows). The subscription also covers YouTube music, which is a separate app.

YouTube Premium also unlocks many other features, such as the ability to play YouTube videos in the background, even on iOS devices.

I tried YouTube premium when Google was offering 6 month free trial. Although the trial period expired a few months ago, I started paying for a monthly subscription of YouTube premium. Once you get an ad-free experience of YouTube, it’s pretty difficult to go back.

But I found that YouTube is still experimenting with the pricing of monthly subscription as it shows different pricing for the same services.

Here is a screenshot of the YouTube premium subscription area when accessed from within the YouTube app on the iPhone.

The difference is not much but it is still something. Even if it is just half $1 per month it it adds up as $6 or Rs 480/year approx.

Opt for ‘Family Plan’ to save more on YouTube premium subscription

Google also offers family or student plans for YouTube premium. While the student plan is just about half the price of the regular plans, you would require to be eligible for students.

The family plan is Rs 60 more than the regular plan, but it also allows users to add up to five family members. So if you have got friends who want to pull in to get YouTube subscription, the YouTube premium subscription will effectively cost you just under Rs 40 per month, which is the cheapest you can get YouTube Premium. And looking at all the features of YouTube Premium, it is worth the price.
