On one hand, we are seeing flagship smartphones crossing the $1000 mark and mostly focusing on just one area of the smartphone, which is the Camera.
And on the other hand, we are seeing Budget smartphones getting tougher on the competition with aggressive pricing and offering more value to the money smartphones.
The recent addition to the competition is Honor 8X, which is a flagship quality device and starts at Rs 14999/-.
The smartphone has a great build quality and a premium design with a bezel-less design having 6.5 inches of display size.
We have compared it with another amazing smartphone, the Realme 2 Pro, and in this article, we are going to compare with India’s best-selling smartphone in this price range the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Even though it’s quite obvious that the newer smartphone, Honor 8X offers more in comparison to a smartphone which was launched earlier this year, we still wanted to compare the smartphones to see how much and what has improved in the smartphones in this pricing.
Let’s talk about the design
The Redmi Note 5 Pro is a metal built smartphone. But, the Honor 8 X features a more modern design with Glass on the front and the back and a metal chassis in between.
And with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi has introduced the same design aesthetics, which looks quite repetitive.
So, we are more inclind towards the newly launched Honor 8X, and I am sure you too will be gazing the beauty the Honor 8Xto offer.
The smartphones are equipped with dual camera setup, and both have opted for the identical vertical placement, that is on the top left corner.
The fingerprint on both the devices is placed at slightly top on the back for your fingers to reach easily.
Talking about the front, the main differentiator between the two phones is the Notch on the Honor 8X. When we started the year with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, there were quite a less number of Smartphones with this arrangement.
You might love the Notch or you may hate it, there is an option to turn it off in case you hate it, which will make it pretty much like the display of Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Talking about the display, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has a 5.99-inch display in comparison to the 6.5-inch nearly bezel-less display on the Honor 8X.
The reason for half an inch increment on the Honor 8X Pro is because of thin bezels and the arrangement of the Notch.
So now it is clear that the Honor 8 x is a clear winner when it comes to design and build quality.
Let’s talk about the camera
Since we have already mentioned both the smartphones have got a similar camera set up on the back.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro has got 12 MP + 5 MP camera setup, with 5MP being the depth sensor while the Honor 8X gets a 20MP + 2MP dual camera setup, with 2 MP being the depth sensor
Both the smartphones of capable of taking good pictures, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has already proved itself and has it has been in the hands of a lot of people who take good photos with it (I’ve seen it on Instagram), which made it the best selling smartphone in this price range.
On the other hand, the camera performance on the Honor 8X is mediocre, it is not as impressive as the performance on a flagship smartphone, but you will also have to understand that you are paying this much of money for a lot of other things that are there in the smartphone.
The front camera used for selfies is also a crucial factor for a lot of millennials, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has got the 20MP camera while the Honor 8X has got 16MP.
Both the smartphone cameras are capable of taking portrait shots and do it well, and even on the front camera, the software is used for portrait shots, though the processing of photos from the front camera is not that great or neither of the devices.
Let’s talk about other specifications
Let’s first talk about the software both the smart phones are powered by Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, and both the smart phones have got the custom UI what the top of Android.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro has got MIUI 10 over the top of Android, while the Honor 8 x has got Huawei’s EMUI 8.2 over the top of Android.
The battery is slightly less on Honor 8X with 3750mAh in comparison to the 4000mAh on the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 636 with Adreno 509 GPU while the Honor 8X uses the homegrown Kirin 710 with Mali G5 1 MP4 GPU
Both the smart phones are available in different storage variants, the base variant being 4GB RAM with 64GB of internal storage available at Rs 14999.
The other variant in Honor 8X is 6gb of RAM with 128 GB of internal storage.
Which one should you pick?
It is obviously the Honor 8X which gets our vote. Picking the latest smartphone in comparison to a smartphone that was launched months ago is a no-brainer, and you probably were already aware of it, you just wanted someone to tell you and here it is.
Go, buy the Honor 8X, which is currently the best smartphone you can get for the price of Rs 14999 (for 4GB RAM and 64GB Internal Storage)
The Honor 8X is a complete package, with a better design, better-looking smartphone, and a good performance.
