Lava Pixel V1 is a budget smartphone that comes with a sleek design, nice specs and a promise to be one of the first phones to get lastest Android updates thanks to Google’s Android One, Google’s initiative for providing updates for at least two years.
India is currently one of the hottest smartphone markets in the world, and it has no signs of slowing down, every other day, there are smartphone companies (mainly from China) that are making their way into the Indian smartphone market after companies like Xiaomi and OnePlus are selling their inexpensive phones like hot cakes.
Homegrown companies like Micromax and Lava have tough competition while Micromax is trying to beat the competition by imitating what is working for the competition.
Lava does not want to stay behind in this race and is bringing smartphones with great specs and one such phone was recently launched by Lava, the Lava Pixel V1.
I recently got my hands on the device and have been using it for a few weeks, so this review will help you decide whether the phone is good for you or not.
Design and Form Factor
When I first held Lava Pixel V1 in my hands, It felt light, it weighs just 135 grams and that’s too light for a 5.5-inch smartphone.
The body of the phone is plastic which is done in a way to make it look like metal, and it does feel good in the hands.
The photos of Lava Pixel V1 uploaded on the Flipkart listing makes the phone look it has a very thin bezel which is barely visible, however, it does have a thin bezel but for some reason (or perhaps a photography trick) it looks very thin in the photo.
The phone packs a 13MP main camera and an 8MP front camera (keeping in mind that people use it more these days #selfies).
A 13MP main camera is like standard in phones that are above Rs 10,000/- but an 8MP front camera is a rare to be found in budget phones. And the camera that actually clicks nice decent photos.
I used phones with 13MP camera but product not so great results, so I can say the Camera on Lava Pixel V1 is pretty good.
Here are few sample pics from Lava Pixel V1
The phone gives you clear and bright images that look good on the phone’s screen. I click some low light images and was happy with the results. Macro shots were too good auto focus working perfectly. All in all, a great camera for the price you pay.
Lava Pixel V1 has a resolution of 1280 x 720 Pixels, which little disappointing, perhaps we are accustomed to the Full HD displays the world has to offer, mostly at a much higher price than you would be paying for this phone, So, I guess, this is not actually disappointing.
Especially for people who are looking for an upgrade from a low-end or mid-range phone, or maybe from the phones that were priced at almost equal fo Laval Pixel V1 few years ago.
Performance and Battery Life
With a 1.3 GHz, Quad Core processor, this device is definitely not a powerhouse of a phone but it’s also not under performer. I did not find any lag during my usage with multiple apps opened in the background. 2GB RAM is good enough for your regular apps.
As per the heating is concerned, there is none, I didn’t play Games as I am not a big of a gamer, but I made the phone run through maximum performance by using multiple apps and watching videos, to which it didn’t get heated much.
It strange that our usage gets accustomed to the battery we get in our phones.
The battery (2600mAh) life is pretty good as well, you charge once at night and you will have enough juice for the entire day with average usage and you may still have some battery juice left by the end of the day if you didn’t do too much of video playing.
The competition is very stiff in this price segment as people want to buy a phone with best specs available and no one really bothers to know how the device actually performs, but with the Pixel V1, Lava is trying to offer a usable phone with good specs by putting a 32GB of Internal Storage and a 2GB of RAM, a Decent Camera and a nice design. And not to forget, Android One
Tha Lava Pixel V1 is available on Flipkart for Rs 11,300/- which is quite a nice pricing for a device that has some nice specs
