Motorola launched Moto  Z2 Play in the first week of June, it is the second generation of the Moto Z Play launched last year which is a pocket-friendly variant of the Moto Z.

While Moto Z didn’t see the next generation, not at least till now, but Moto Z2 Play has made it’s entry to the market and will be available for purchase from 15th June.

The good thing is, it will be available both Offline and Online, with Flipkart being the official partner.

The USP of the phone its ability to connect with different Modules specially designed for the phone, Motorola calls is Mods, they simply enhance a particular feature of the phone.

Without the Mods, Moto Z2 play is just another smartphone asking a premium price of Rs 27999/– for a phone that has quite an average specs sheet, something far less priced phones have been offering since long.

But the Moto Z2 play is not one of those Selfie Centric phones either which are selling because of the aggressive advertising push.

Price: Rs 27,999/-

Let’s talk about the Moto Mods

Like I said, it is the only phone that gives you the option to add up something to make one feature better than anything else available in the market.

Moto Z2 has a nice concept of Modular phones, the back of it has a 6 pin connector which connects different Mods which will help customers buy the Mods with a feature they want to enhance.

There is a JBL Soundboost Speaker –

to boost the sound coming out from your phone, the sound can fill the room and enough for a small party.

A Projector –

You connect this to your phone and project the screen to a big wall, it’s your pocket-friendly (not wallet friendly though) projector.

A Powerbank –

This adds up 2220mAh of battery to your phone which comes with

Hassleband True Zoom with 10x Optical Zoom –

For turning your camera into the best one available on any phone, 10x zoom is the key highlight of this Mod.

And then there are Mods that are simply back covered, you can change the style of your phone by adding one of them.

Now, this sounds all good and innovative that you can really customise your phone like you customise your PC. But when you looks at the prices of these Mods, I am sure many of you would spend your money on it just like that.

For example,

Hasselblad True Zoom Camera Mobile Mod is available for Rs 19,999/- on Flipkart. If you buy it for enhancing the camera on the Moto Z2 Play, which is priced at Rs 27,999/-

You end up paying Rs 47,999/- for a phone that will have an excellent camera feature, but all other things will be a mid-range phone.

Similar kind of money you will have to spend if you plan to buy the Moto Insta Share Projector Mobile Mod which also costs Rs 19,999/- on Flipkart

If you plan to enhance the speakers by adding the JBL Soundboost Speaker Mod, you will have to pay Rs 5999/- for it, which is not pricey like the Hasselblad True Zoom Camera Mod, but there are other JBL Bluetooth Speakers available for far less price and will work with any phone, check it yourself on

The only Moto Mods that seem affordable to me are the Back Covers that range from Rs 300 to Rs 500. But again, You can put back cover on any phone.

The Moto Mods might be unique and might appeal a few people looking to get more out of their smartphones but I would honestly prefer a separate device, be it a Point and Shoot Camera with optical zoom, or a Bluetooth Speaker.

In case you want to buy it.

The Moto Z2 Play is available to purchase along with the Moto Mods, you can buy them either offline or online from Use the links below.
