Has this ever happened to you that you try to download something from the internet, and you end up installing an additional piece of software on your computer?

It usually happens when you’re trying to download freeware from websites that are dedicated to downloading software. They try every technique to make money. They will show popup ads, and they will make money by installing additional software on your computer when you are installing the freeware.

I even shared my experience of downloading and installing an app called FileZilla, which changed my Google search results by introducing an extension in my browser

Well, this time, I ended up installing Avast security, which is an antivirus and was quite popular in the early 2000s. And after Microsoft started including an inbuilt Antivirus in Windows, the use of antivirus has decreased drastically over the years.

It seems they have started engaging in activities like this where you are downloading something from the internet, and you end up installing software that you don’t need.

So you need to be cautious when you’re downloading something from the internet, notice, and read every piece of information that pops up in front of you.

But if you find yourself in a situation where you have installed Avast Security on your Macbook, here is how you can uninstall.

How to uninstall Avast security from Mac

Usually, the uninstall process in Mac OS is pretty tricky. By default, there is no option to uninstall a software, and you have to go to the Applications folder, right-click on the app you want to uninstall, and then select ‘Move to Bin.’

It is a pretty straight forward step for most of the software that you install on your Mac, but some softwares need more steps.

Some software offer the option to uninstall it, and some software for which you would require an Uninstaller app because the manual method is a little tricky and involves command prompts as well.

CCleaner is one such app available for both Windows and Mac that offers some handy features, and one of the features is that you can uninstall apps installed on your computer.

So, I tried uninstalling Avast security, video by using the CCleaner app. Still, I failed to do so because it gives an error that the average security is already running in the background, despite quitting the app.

I even disabled Avast from auto-starting from the startup section in CCleaner app. But I couldn’t uninstall it because it always showed me the error that it is running in the background.

So, to uninstall Avast security from Macbook follow the steps mentioned below.

  • Open Avast security app from the applications area, for the app drawer area.
  • Once it is open you will find its menu appearing on top.
  • Click on Avast and you will find uninstall option.
  • Clicking on it will show you a pop up, and then you can follow the instructions.

Please Note: The Macbook needs to be rebooted after you have uninstalled Avast Security App, so make sure that you have saved all your work. Before doing it
