We all know the importance of hashtags on social media, they have proved to be an important tool in the success of a campaign.

It was first used on Twitter and eventually found its way on Facebook as well. Now years after staying away from it YouTube has also embraced hashtags to be used on their platform for content Discovery.

YouTube now allows any YouTube creator to add hashtags in the title or the description of the video. We are here to tell you how you can properly use hashtags on YouTube to gain more views and subscribers for your channel.

Don’t confuse Hashtags (#) with tags on YouTube

Now, there was already the option of adding tags to the videos, these are actually keywords that you put on the upload page of the video so that YouTube can figure out its relevancy to put the videos in the ‘Suggested Videos’ section.

While tags will remain there on YouTube, hashtags will be something you can add right in the title of your videos.

These hashtags will be hyperlinked with all the videos that have common hashtags, making it another way to find related videos when someone Clicks on the particular hashtag.

Proper usage of hashtags on YouTube to get more views

Now scenes YouTube has allowed the usage of hashtags in the title it does not mean that creators can overdo it, like every other feature on YouTube this feature also has got some guidelines that you should follow.

★ Do not overuse hashtags, your video title cannot have dozens of hashtags if you happen to do that YouTube will not consider your hashtags to be searchable,

★ Do not use it relevant hashtags, which means, like title and thumbnail you need to have relevant hashtags and do not try to gain the system by putting trending hashtags in your video title or description.

★ You cannot use hashtags for promoting misleading content or hate speech or any kind of content that is against the YouTube policy.

★ If you do not have hashtags in your title the hashtag from your descriptions will be displayed just above the video title making it easier for people to tap on them and find other videos having the similar hashtag.

Organize Your Videos using Hashtags

Yes, surely we have playlists on YouTube to keep our videos organized, but it’s a little tricky for viewers to get to it.

Hashtags can solve this problem, all you have to do is, create a unique hashtag for a particular series of videos on your channel, and put the Hashtag in the description so that it appears above the title of the video and can show all other videos with the same hashtag,

It is going to be helpful for people to make their videos more discoverable if they make videos on current affairs or something that is in the news from the last few days.

The hashtag system isn’t going to be useful for every youtube since hashtags have always meant to be a drive for the campaigns.
