- Select the contacts you want to hide the status from
- Tap the checkmark

- In the Status tab, long-press the contact’s status bubble
- Tap Mute
Their status moves to a “Muted” section at the bottom. They never know you muted them.
5. Hide Your Status Viewing Time
You can prevent others from seeing when you last viewed their status by turning off Read Receipts — but this also removes your ability to see who viewed your status.
- Settings → Privacy → Read receipts → toggle OFF
6. Create a Broadcast List for Status-Like Content
For very private sharing with a specific group, use a Broadcast List instead of Status — messages go to multiple people but each receives it as a private one-on-one message, and recipients don’t see each other.
7. Post Status to Only One Person
Use “Only share with…” and select just one contact to share a status that only they can see — essentially a private status.
Warning: Airplane Mode view trick requires that WhatsApp has already cached/preloaded the status. If the status is very new or hasn’t loaded yet, it won’t work. You also can’t view it after the 24-hour window has passed.
