How to Install the Prisma App on Android Phone

0

There are thousands of apps in the App Store and hundreds of apps get submitted to it on a daily basis. And among those hundred apps, there are times when one particular app gets the most download love of the users.

So much that it ends up being the talk of every tech show and makes it to the list of must have apps on almost every tech site.

And the app which has been making it to such lists is Prisma.

Update : The Prisma app is now live in the play store, link at the bottom of this post.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BIPSgvYjZw_/?taken-by=prisma

It’s a photography app that applies some creative filters over your photos and makes it look more creative.

This app type has already proved to be a hit when Instagram has launched a few years ago, which was downloaded millions of times when it came to Android and was later bought by Facebook for a whopping $1 Billion.

While Prisma is nowhere near that Instagram success, it is still making news for its creative filters and getting a lot of 5-star reviews on the App Store. The huge success on App Store is making Android users go mad for its availability on the Android.

The Facebook page of the Prisma app makes a post stating that over 1 Million people are downloading the app from the app store.

Though the Beta version of Prisma was launched a few days ago, it was pulled back as a lot of users started downloading and installing the .APK file of the beta version which was shared online.

Which means you will have to wait until the .APK file of Prisma app is available. We’ll put the link in the post.

Update : The app is now live in the Play Store

Prisma has also been working on the feature that will let users apply filters on videos as well. Here is the video shared by Prisma on Instagram.

How to Install Pokemon Go and Play in Any Country

0

If you have seen many people wandering on the streets, in the park, and all the places where you won’t see humans, it’s not because an alien force is attacking us.

Neither everyone has started their new year resolution of moving a lot to stay fit.

It’s the Pokemon Go effect, the app that has been all the rage lately. It was launched in the first week of July and has been downloaded millions of times already.

Pokemon Go is a game that was first released in 2016 for both Android and iOS. The game allows you to catch virtual monsters that are popularly known as Pokemon on your phone. These monsters are scattered around the city map, and the player must walk around catching them with their phone.

The game is free to download, but there are some restrictions on where the app can be downloaded from. If you want to install it somewhere other than where it’s available, or if it’s not available there at all, here’s what you need to do:

PokemonGo

Getting a hold of the Pokemon Go app is not as simple as going to the app store and downloading it. You have to go through a more complicated process if you live in a country that doesn’t have the Pokemon Go app.

To play Pokemon Go, you need to download an apk file from a trusted source and then install it on your phone. After following these steps, you will be able to enjoy Pokemon Go from wherever you are in the world!

Though they are slowly rolling out of other countries, that doesn’t mean there isn’t any way to get your hands on the game. Well, there is, if you are a Techtippr reader. :-)

The first thing you should do is check the Play Store and see if it has already been made available in your country. Maybe the search didn’t work, and it was not visible while I was searching for it.

So, make sure if it is not available in your country, click on this official listing of the Pokemon go app in the Play Store. If it shows you the game and the install button, go ahead and install the app. And if it is not letting you install for some reason, go for the second option.

You only need to get your hands on the .APK File of Pokemon Go. Which you can download from here Pokémon Go .APK

PokemonGoPlay

Once you download the APK, you will be able to install it and get started right away (Prefer downloading it on your phone itself so that it is easy to install).

Once you have installed it, you might feel clueless about the game, but nothing to worry about. You can play with it to understand the game. It’s easy.

Or, if you want to speed up your training, exciting videos are floating all over YouTube. I found this one to be pretty useful.

Also, suppose that you don’t see any dragon to catch after installing the Pokemon Go app, the Gyms, or the Pokestopes. In that case, there is a chance your city is facing some server issue, this post from Gizmotimes might help you have a better understanding of what’s going on.

Wi-Fi or Bluetooth? Which is the Best Way to Use Android Phone as a Wireless Hotspot for Internet

I use my Android phone as a Wireless Hotspot and connect my Macbook Air to get my work done when I am on the go, and I love this freedom of staying connected to the Internet from anywhere.

You don’t always get a Cafe with a Free Wi-Fi, so the Mobile Hotspot comes handy.

There are actually three ways to use your Mobile data on a Laptop. One is the usual USB Tethering, which we won’t cover in this post because connecting via USB cable for Internet is so 2010.

So, we have two options to connect our Android phone to a Laptop/ Desktop to use wirelessly.

  1. Wi-Fi Hotspot
  2. Bluetooth Internet Tethering

So, which is the best method to use Mobile Internet on your PC?

Before answring this question, let’s first talk about these two optiosn individually.

Wi-Fi Hostspot

Bluetooth Tethering02

The Wi-Fi Hotspot is the most common option for connecting Android phone to a PC for Internet.

The option is available on mostly every Android phone that are available in the market.

You can enable it with one tap, you can create a password to secure the connection and allow the only devices that will have the password.

Once the Android phone is connected to the PC, you get a reliable Internet connect which is fast too. Almost every phone’s Wi-Fi has a capability of 54Mbps connection.

But the Internet speed we will get will depend on what type of Mobile Connection you are using. If it’s 3G, the maximum theoratical speed is 7.2Mbps and if it’s 4G, then the maximum theoratical speed is 22Mbps. But in real world, the speed may vary.

Apart from the Speed, Wi-Fi covers a good range, you can keep your phone charged in one room and use it’s Internet on your Laptop in the other room.

But it’s drains the battery faster, because your phone is doing a lot of things at once, i.e, sending and recieving Internet packets from the Cellular Network and then sending and recieving the Internet packets to the device.

More than one devices can be connected to the Wi-Fi hotspot at once, the maximum limit however depends from device to device.

In most Mobile phones, you need to Enable the Wi-Fi hostspot if no device is connected to it.

Bluetooth Internet Tethering

Bluetooth Internet Tethering option is also available in mostly all the Android devices that are available in the Market.

To connect it to a Laptop, you need to Turn on Bluetooth and Pair the device, which you need to do only once. Only paired devices can use the Internet which makes this option secure to use.

Internet via Bluetooth tethering is fast, but not as fast as compaired to the Wi-Fi Hotspot. Bluetooth 3.0 and Bluetooth 4.0 are said to have a similar device to device transfer speed of 25Mbps.

Which means even if it isn;t as fast as Wi-Fi Hotspot, you will still get the maximum theoratical speed of 4G network.

Apart from the speed. The Connectivity is also good. Mostly all the Bluetooth enabled devices are said to have a good 10 Meter range, which is quite sufficient for a normal use unless you keep your phone in your neighbour’s house.

Only one device can be connected to the PC via Bluetooth Tethering.

There is one point in favour of Bluetooth Tethering, which is, you don’t need to Enable it everytime you want to Connect your laptop and use Internet.

Once you have enabled the option, it remains active. All you have to do is, Click on the Bluetooth Icon on your Laptop and connect to the Network of the paired Android device. (The Mobile data needs to be turned on on the device, obviously)

So, if you are planning to have a house party and depending on your Android to provide Internet to the guest to uplaod their phones to Facebook or Instagram, you better use Wi-Fi Hotspot.

Else, if you are someone who uses their Mobile Internet on a PC, and want to conserve some battery juice and required to connect/ disconnect from the Internet several times a day. Bluetooth Tethering is the way to do.

I use Bluetooth Tethering, becuase I use 3G and the speed I get would be same on both Bluetotoh and Wi-Fi. I definately consues less battery than Wi-FI (which is sucker for battery). And the best feaure of Bluetotoh Tethering for me is the ability to connet to the Internet with just one click from the Laptop.

A Clever Use of Google Spreadsheets as a Kitchen Log

I’m a lazy person, and that’s why I am always looking for the easiest way to do something. I spend plenty of time to look for tiny gadgets that can save a few minutes of my everyday time.

I’ve done it well so far and I’ve even made my wife’s life easy with the help of a simple Google Spreadsheet.

What the Spreadsheet actually does?

I know it’s not rocket science but when I showed it to my wife, she was impressed, which is a rare event, especially when I am involved.

Prior to this, she used to keep a log of the Milk Delivered to our home. The Milkman delivers 3ltrs of milk every day, sometimes it’s 2.5ltrs and some days it’s just 2ltrs and some days he doesn’t show up.

So, she used a Table Calander to mark the dates with how much milk has been delivered. And at the end of every month, she sat down to calculate the bill.

This is how the Spreadsheet looks.

I installed the Google Spreadsheet app on her Android phone, (iOS | Android) created a new Spreadsheet and shared with me as well (so that I too can fill it). I put some formulas that that will automatically calculate the number of liters of milk delivered throughout the month.

This number was also multiplied by the fixed number (price of 1-liter milk) giving the total bill amount.

So, all she has to do now is put the number of liters of milk delivered every day. The column even changes to Red when it’s not delivered.

Not a revolutionary thing to do, but saves a few minutes every month.

It’s just one example how cool Google Spreadsheets are, you can put it to a good use, all you need is to think how to make use of it for your problem.

I’ve created a template in case you want to use it. Make sure you change it according to your needs, e.g, the price of Milk (or anything else you want to keep a log for)

Use the template

How to Disable Automatic Updates in Windows 10

It’s been more than a year since Microsoft released Windows 10. Mostly it was a free upgrade to the users of previous versions of Windows.

Everything about Windows 10 is nice, and there are too many reasons to upgrade to Windows 10 if you haven’t already. I’ve been using it ever since it was released.

DisableWindowsUpdate01

But there is one thing about the OS that bothers me, there is no option to turn off ‘Automatic Updates’. I know that keeping your Windows up to date is a good practice to secure your Computer, but if you are using connected to the Internet using your Mobile data, you can end up using all your data for just updating your PC.

It just sucked in 600MB of my Mobile data within an hour, which means I spent Rs 150 ($2.5) for that update . Times like these make us want the Disable option even more.

However, there is a workaround to get the options to Disable ‘Automatic Updates’ in Windows 10. You can follow the steps mentioned below to get it done.

Step 1: Press Windows Key + Q to get the Cortana/Search box, and type ‘services.msc’

DisableWindowsUpdate02Step 2: A new Window will open which will have a list of services. Find ‘Windows Updates’ in the list.

DisableWindowsUpdate03Step 3: When you find the ‘Windows Updates’ in the list of services, double click on it to open the properties window.

DisableWindowsUpdate04Step 4: From the options in the dropdown, select Manual and click on Apply and then click on Ok.

If you ever need to Enable the Windows Updates, you can follow the same steps and select ‘Automatic’ from the dropdown in the properties of ‘Automatic Updates’ service.

How to Move Your Notes from Evernote to OneNote

0

I wrote about how Evernote made me unhappy by making changes to their paid plans and limiting the free plan to sync on only two devices. It seems like I am not the only person who is unhappy with this change.

Move_to_OneNoteThere are a lot of people who are already looking for alternatives,  and many who have settled with OneNote, a decent Note-taking app from Windows.

Now, as I said I’ll stick to Evernote for a while as the task of moving all the notes to another note taking app is going to take a few  hours of time.

But if I choose OneNote, the task of moving notes from Evernote to OneNote can be automated with this little tool created by Microsoft.

Here is a video that shows how it works.

Why is OneNote a better alternative to Evernote?

Well, as far as I remember, it was the first note-taking app that I ever used. In 2006, I was amazed by the functionalities of OneNote that came bundled with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Evernote_to_OneNote

I shifted to Evernote because of its availability on multiple platforms, but now as the Free account users can only use Evernote on just 2 devices and OneNote is available across all the popular platforms, the choice seems obvious.

OneNote offers almost every feature Evernote has, even the ones that are available for Paid users, like the ability to draw on documents, view notebooks offline etc.

If you were using Evernote for taking notes, screenshots,  storing ideas, documents , to-do list. OneNote is the closest you can get.

Convert Any Speaker into a Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

In this post, I am going to show you how you can turn any ordinary speaker into a Wireless Speaker.

Now, the trick is very easy and every inexpensive. You probably already have a pair of speakers at your home.

Ordinary Speakers

I’ve got these Speakers that I bought several years ago. These are wired speakers and you need to connect the 3.5mm jack to the Mobile phone or PC to play the music.

Now we will turn these very old speakers into Wireless. And for that, we will need this.

BT Bluedio Headset

It’s Bluedio Bluetooth Stereo Headset that I bought for Rs 500.
I’ve already created a video about this device so you can check that out.

What we will do is, we will connect these speakers to this Bluetooth Headset which will work as a Bluetooth Signal Reciever.

BTConnection

I’ve already connected this to my Tablet PC. You can see the connection. It’s easy to pair it with any Bluetooth-enabled device.

I can play the music from my Tablet PC Wirelessly. I can roam around my your house and control the music from my Tablet PC. The range is pretty good. Covers my 1200sqft apartment.

It lasts for 2 hours for the music playback, so you can keep it connected to a power source as well.

I bought the speakers for Rs 300 and this Bluedio headset for Rs 500. And in Rs 800 I’ve got a decent Bluetooth Speaker.

And the best thing I love about this set up is, I can take this anywhere. I can convert any speaker into a Bluetooth one.

Even my earphones, which is very convenient when I am working out or running on a treadmill.

You can check out the video I made to see this trick in action.

How to Spot the Fake Xiaomi Power Bank

Xiaomi has been bringing a lot of its products in India, and they sell like hotcakes. The reason is, the quality and price ratio is pretty amazing.

The Power Banks from Xiaomi are in so much demand that they are always out of stock.

This gives an opportunity to scammers to sell the fake copies of it, even on reputed sites like Snapdeal and eBay.

This means trusting any other site like BookMyOffer is completely out of question.

Sadly, one of my cousins fell into the trap of BookMyOffer, which one of many websites freely practising this scam by offering Xiaomi Powerbanks at unbelievable prices.

Like this 20800mAh Power Bank, which is priced at Rs 2100 on Xiaomi’s official website, it was being sold by BookMyOffer for Rs 650.

But the product you get is not even worth this much. I’ve created a video comparing the Fake and the Original Xiaomi Power Banks.

Haven’t got the 20800mAh power bank with me but you can still see how the Fake Xiaomi Power Banks are different from the Fake ones.

Xiaomi Power Banks have always got an Aluminum casing which is nonglossy, which is the number one difference. And the Fake one can actually be opened easily, exposing the cheap quality batteries used inside.

It’s not just fake Xiaomi Powerbanks, there are many other products that have got their replicas.

Check out the video.

Recently a lot of people are complaining about fake xiaomi earphones as well. We have reviewed to of xiaomi earphones on our website and have directed our readers to buy it from the links mentioned in the article.

There are multiple sellers on websites like Flipkart and Amazon so you have to be really cautious from where you are getting the earphone. Best option would be to simply follow the link in the article.

Sony Bluetooth Headset vs Bludio Bluetooth Headset. Which One Should You Buy?

Update: if by any chance you are reading this article in 2020 or beyond, This article is kind of obsolete. I would suggest you to check out this article. In 2020 and beyond we started seeing tws earphones making all the rage.

If you remember I write about this Tiny Bluetooth Headset that I bought Online for Rs 500.

For those who haven’t read the post, I bought this device to use it with my Tablet PC as I was also using it for making and receiving calls.

So this device was quite helpful as I don’t always have to carry the tablet PC in my hands. Just keep it in the bag and keep it connected to this to answer calls.

Everything about this device was good apart from the battery. It gives around 2 hours of music playback or a day of standby time when it’s connected to my Tablet PC.

So I bought another one, and this time, from Sony. Which is available on Amazon for Rs 2200/-

But the kind quality of the product you get it worth the price. Though I bought it for getting more standby time, this also impressed me with the built quality.

The Bluedio one is made up of cheap plastic, whereas this Bluetooth headset from Sony is nicely built.

Also, the Earphones with Sony are good and can be used.

But still, Bluedio is good in its own right. I mean what else can you ask for when you pay just Rs 500 for a Bluetooth device.

Anyways, I wanted to tell you guys that if you wish to such kind of set up, go for the Sony Bluetooth headset. Because it stays longer, I keep it connected to my Tablet PC for 2 3 days before it starts notifying me of low battery…

And if you are looking to turn your ordinary speakers into Wireless ones, I think Bluedio will serve the purpose. (the only thing annoying is, that is automatically turned off if it’s not connected to a device.

So this is it. you can follow the link in the description to buy either of the devices and

You can check out the video I created.

Also, Subscribe to our YouTube channel for more such videos.

Bluetooth DF200 Bluetooth Stereo Headset Review

Update: if by any chance you are reading this article in 2020 or beyond, This article is kind of obsolete. I would suggest you check out this article. In 2020 and beyond we started seeing TWS earphones making all the rage.

This is a review of Bluedio Bluetooth Stereo headset I bought for Rs 500 from Flipkart. The Box contains a Bluetooth Signal Reciever, an Earphone, and a USB Charging Cable.

Does it work as advertised, how’s the quality and Is it worth the price? Let’s find out in this post. (Video review is at the bottom of this post)

Buy from Amazon

Why I bought Bluedio Stereo Headset

A few days ago I wrote about my experience of using Samsung Galaxy Tab as my Mobile phone. I decided to use the device when I found myself using the Mobile phone for writing posts and doing social media shares more than I make calls.

Surprisingly it’s been more than 6 months and I am stilling using that setup.

Though it was a little tough at the beginning, but when I bought these Bluetooth headsets from Bluedio, it was easy for me to use the Tablet PC as a mobile phone. I was also able to take it to the gym and listen to the music.

I love the fact that I just need one device for everything when I am out of my home. I just live it.

The topic of this post is the Bluedio Bluetooth Headset that I bought online for Rs 500. It isn’t the best one available but it surely get’s the job done.

This Actually Gets the Job Done

I wanted to try one of these to see if it really works and whether I can actually benefit from it. I know my setup is a bit unusual, but anyone looking for a Bluetooth headset, who is also on a budget, this Bluetooth headset is a quite fair choice.

You get what you pay for

The built quality is cheap plastic, feels like it won’t last too long, but surprisingly it’s still in working condition. But the earphones are a total waste, I never used them. I’ve had my own earphones of good quality.

All is good, but I’ve got one issue, the battery. The product listing mentioned it can last up to 4 hours of music playback, but it hardly gets 2 hours and perhaps a day of standby time when it’s connected to the Tablet PC. I do make some calls and listen to the music.

But then, what else you can expect when you pay Rs 500. I think it’s worth the price and gets your job done.

Here is the video review

How To Use OLX and Quikr to Make Some Quick Cash

If you were not living under a rock for several years, you might be aware of sites like Quikr and OLX.

These are online portals where people sell and buy (both used as well as new) stuff at a convenient price.

1465398690_featured.jpeg
In this article, I am going to tell you how you can use sites like OLX and Quikr to make a quck buck.

Though the money you’ll make from these sites, may not be too much to be considered a full-time income, but College students will some extra cash to spend.

The trick is actually quite popular in the US, because there are so many sites like this, and majority of the people use these sites to sell and buy things. This trick doesn’t require a lot of cash, you can start small and then expand accordingly.

How to make quick cash using these sites

So, we know the Ads for these sites keep running on the TV 24×7. And these sites keep telling people how easy it is to sell their stuff online. Just click some photos from Mobile phones and list the things you don’t want anymore.

If you browse through these sites, you will find so good things being listed for very less prices. You will find a few good things with bad photos.

Buy from OLX, Sell on Quikr (or vice versa)

So, if you can buy them, invest some money in fixing and making them look new and taking good photos (with some photography tricks) and relisting them on another such site, you can sell it for more that you actually bought it.

Suppose you see a Mobile phone, whose original MRP is Rs 15,000/- listed on OLX, for Rs 6,000/-, the photos are bad, there are few scratches on the body of the mobile phone, and battery isn’t giving enough backup.

You can buy it got Rs 6000/- (or even bargain to buy it at an even lesser price), change the body of the phone, put a new battery. You can easily sell it on Quikr for a better price with some profit.

The profit might not be huge, pehaps Rs 500-Rs 1000, but isn’t it a good deal for a college student spending approx 2 houts.

There are many categories to sell and buy from

The mobile phone is just an example, there are so many other things people buy and sell on these sites. Suck as Furnitures, Home Appliances, Home Decors etc.

You can be creative with such thingfs and make them look new. The more expensive the product, the more potential you have to increase your profit.

Buy Offline and Sell Online (or Vice Versa)

In my college days, I was the guy to get in touch with when people wanted to buy and sell their Mobile Phones I used to make decent cash as a college student. It’s easy to be one even today.

Promise your friends and relatives to sell their phones for a better price. The idea is to get inventory and then sell it with some profit margin.

Or you can buy stuff from these websites, invest some morey and creativity in fixing them and naming them new. And then sell them offline.

I am sure this is going to be helpful for many.

WhatsApp Brings Video Calling for Android Phones

0

Earlier this week we talked about the recently released WhatsApp app for Desktop, and it seems WhatsApp has now moved over to working on the next feature they can roll out soon.

WhatsAppFeatured

After this release of Video calling feature to the Android beta testers, we can safely say it’s what next they are working on. And It’s soon going to be available to its billion users.

The motto of WhatsApp founders has always been to offer that one feature and do it well. But ever since it got acquired by Facebook, we have seen a lot of features that were added to it lately. The calling feature was added to WhatsApp last year, then they brought the WhatsApp Web, and recently they released WhatsApp for Desktop (though it works similar to WhatsApp, i.e., mirror the Mobile App on Desktop).

I haven’t seen a lot of people using the WhatsApp calling feature, and I don’t think the same about the Video calling feature as well, but then even if a 1% of it’s a billion user base would use it, it’s still a feature worth introducing.

How to Enable Calling Feature on WhatsApp

To enable the Videos calling feature, you need to download the beta version of the WhatsApp.apk tagged as version 20.16.80, which you can find here ⟶ Download WhatsApp.apk

whatsapp-video-calling-beta

Once you have installed the new .apk it will replace the older version. You can then go to any conversation and tap on the calling button which will now show you two options, Audio Call, and Videos Call.

The feature is for beta testers, and it might take some time before it comes to the Play Store as an update. We will keep you posted.

Extend Your Laptop’s battery by Up to 50% by Using Opera Desktop Browser

Opera desktop browser brings a new feature that can extend your Laptop’s battery life by up to 50%.

Yes, that’s right, even though we’ve talked a lot about saving precious data on mobile, saving battery on mobile. But when it comes to Laptop, there is not much we can do to maximize the battery life.

How does it work?

To Quote from the announcement post

“Once the laptop’s power cable is unplugged, the battery icon will appear next to the search and address field in the Opera browser. Click the battery icon to activate the power saving mode and flip on the switch.

The browser will also suggest you enable power saving mode when your laptop reaches 20% remaining battery capacity.”

In their blog post, they mentioned they were able to extend the battery by 50%, they did it on a Lenovo X250, Core i7-5600U, 16GB RAM and Dell XPS 13, 16GB RAM running on Windows 10, 64-bit, high-performance power mode.

opera-powersaver-info1.png

Though it cannot be said everyone would get to an extent up to 50% of their battery life, it is still not bad if I can get an extra hour or two working on my Macbook Air which currently gives a backup of around 7 hours.

Note: To use this feature, you need to install the Developer version of Opera browser. Link at the bottom of this post.

When it comes to Laptop, there is not much we can do to maximize the battery life. Opera was always been up for some innovation, be it being one of the first introduced tabbed browsing to the world, to making super light browser for feature phones (Opera Mini).

With this new feature from Opera, I hope Chrome and Mozilla Firefox would also come up with something like this as I hardly see anyone switching to Opera browser just for this feature.

Download WhatsApp App for Mac and PC

0

After years of being a Mobile Only messaging app, Facebook (the company that now owns WhatsApp) brought WhasApp Web last year, which made them realise how many people want to use it on their Computers as well.

So, they  have finally launched Desktop apps for WhatsApp. You can now download WhatsApp app for your Windows or Mac Computer.

WHatsApp for Desktop

It’s a great way to keep using the most popular messaging services even when you are working on your PC.

I tried the WhatsApp app for Mac, and it feels quite similar to the WhatsApp Web released last year, the only difference is, you can use it outside the browser.

WhatsApp for PC

While there wasn’t any problem with running WhatsApp Web inside the borwser, the Desktop app will make sure you don’t have to authenticate every time you have cleared the cache of your browser.

Also, there it can be quickly launched without launching the browser. Even though you will need to keep the WhatsApp on your mobile connected to the internet, to use the WhatsApp Desktop app.

Now the interesting question is when the whole world is moving towards Mobile, doing stuff on the go, why is there a need for a Desktop app?

There are small businesses that use WhatsApp to offer services to their customers. Some let users order something online, some offer support for their products and then there are WhatsApp groups (who’s limit was recently lifted up from 50 to 250) WhatsApp for the desktop would surely help people who use WhatsApp for their businesses.

Even for guys like me, who is almost glued to their laptops, it will be a little time saver that you won’t have to pick your phone up every time someone sends those MEMES and Jokes or simply the Emoticons.

The Possible Ways You Can Use WhatsApp on PC

0

WhatsApp_Bluestacks

For many people, WhatsApp has become the primary method of messaging and staying connected with their loved ones. It is now being used by over a billion people in the world. That’s 1/6th of the world’s population, millions are being added every day.

And chances are, almost all the important (and unimportant) people you know are using WhatsApp, and you may not want to miss communicating with them, even if you spend most of your time on your PC.

Wouldn’t it be great if you can use WhatsApp on your PC? I mean it is a waste of your precious time in shifting focus on between your PC and Mobile.

Well, you surely can do that, Yes, you can use WhatsApp on your PC. In this post, we will talk about options you have to use WhatsApp on your PC.

The Official Way (WhatsApp Web)

WhatsApp Web

Update: You can now Download WhatsApp Native Apps for Mac and Windows

Guys who own WhatsApp know you want to use it on your PC, so, they have now released a feature that would let you use it on your PC.

Just head over to web.whatsapp.com and open the WhtsApp on your Mobile, Find the WhatsApp Web in the options (update your WhatsApp if you can’t see the options), tap on that and then Tap on the ‘Plus’ icon on the top right and scan the barcode you see on the web.whatsapp.com page.

You will be logged into your WhatsApp and can see all your messages, reply to them, send and receive photos and videos.

There are few limitations though, like, you cannot change your status, names, profile picture, group names on the WhatsApp Web. Also, the calling feature will not work on WhatsApp Web. Plus, it currently works for Android users who use Firefox or Google Chrome browsers on your PC.

Another thing to keep in mind that your mobile phone needs to be connected to the internet in order to use WhatsApp. This is because WhatsApp establishes a local connection between your phone and PC and all the communication still goes via your mobile.

I have been using the feature and I love it as I can reply to messages much faster.

The Apps Way (Pushbullet)

Another way is the app way, where you have to install an App on your Mobile, as well its extension available for Google Chrome.

The app is called Pushbullet and it lets you reply to the messages you get on WhatsApp.

Pushbullet is much more than just a way to reply to WhatsApp from PC, it shows all your mobile notifications on your PC, and you can also reply to text messages, Facebook Messenger, Hangouts, Line etc.

Again, the limitation here is, that you can only reply to the messages you get notifications for, so it is slightly less effective than WhatsApp Web. Plus, your phone needs to be connected to the Internet for this to work. And you need to be using Android 4.4 (KitKat) or newer on your Mobile.

We have also mentioned Pushbullet in our post about utilizing your mobile more efficiently.

The Hack Way (BlueStacks)

Okay, if the above two methods are not for you and you want the full functionality of the WhatsApp app on your PC, you can use any Android emulator, which will let you install any Android app within a window of your PC that will behave like a Mobile.

The android emulator we will talk about here is Blue Stacks, as it is the most popular and easier to use software.

When you launch it, you will be asked to Sign up for a Google account or sign in using an existing Google account.

Use the existing one if you have it, else creating an account takes a few minutes.

Once you are logged in, you can click on the search icon on top right, type WhatsApp and hit enter. Select Play Store to install the WhatsApp from.

Follow the instructions for installing WhatsApp, it is same as installing WhatsApp on your mobile.

[su_note]Important: As your PC does not have any SIM Card, WhatsApp will verify the number by sending a security code to the number you want to use with it. So, make sure it is accessible to you at the time of installation.[/su_note]
